The Southern California Rugby Football Union (SCRFU) is the governing body of all
rugby clubs in the union (including clubs from Arizona and Nevada), and is the voice
of the union at the USA Rugby level. The mission of SCRFU is to both promote
the game of rugby in Southern California, as well as encourage sportsmanship at
all levels of play.
We have a lot to be proud of in the SoCal territory. We are celebrating our
70th year of existence as a Union this year, highlighted at our second annual Griffins
Ball in Sherman Oaks, California on November 3rd. We currently have three
teams participating in Super League Rugby. Five of our six senior and collegiate
all-star teams are ranked in the top tiers in the country. The women's clubs
won back their seed for national 15's championships in October. And SCYR,
Southern California Youth Rugby is growing by leaps and bounds above the rest in
the country.
Of course, there is much more improvement to be made. The SCRFU Executive
Committee has commissioned several task force committees to focus on hot items this
year: Collegiate issues, Referee development, and Marketing & PR to name
a few. If you are interested in volunteering your time towards one of these
efforts, please send me an e-mail and get involved.
Thank you for your interest in SCRFU. Should you have any questions or need
further information about rugby in Southern California, please feel free to contact
us. I hope to see you out on the pitch!
