11th Annual Ventura 7s

SCRFU

This past Saturday, June 8th, 21 teams came out to the 11th Annual Ventura 7s Tournament, hosted at Arroyo Vista Community Park. We saw 16 men and 5 women teams compete throughout pool play for an opportunity to advance to the playoff brackets. The matches were competitive with numerous one score games including several ties. 


CUP


After pool play matches Belmont Shore Gold, Belmont Shore Blue, Santa Monica and Eagle Rock all advanced to the Cup competition with a 3-0 record. The semi finals saw Belmont Shore Gold vs Eagle Rock 1 and Belmont Shore Blue vs Santa Monica. Belmont Shore Gold secured the win vs a tough Eagle Rock 1 while Belmont Shore Blue vs Santa Monica went to Ventura 7s first ever sudden death OT playoff. It took over 10 mins of extra time before Santa Monica prevailed to get a spot in the final. The Cup final between Belmont Shore Gold and Santa Monica displayed two of SCRFUs top teams facing off with Belmont Shore Gold taking the Cup. 


PLATE


San Fernando Valley vs Avengers U23 and LARC vs Eagle Rock 2. San Fernando Valley was able to beat a young Avengers U23 with Eagle Rock 2 beating LARC to advance. In the final Eagle Rock 2 was able to secure a win vs San Fernando Valley to take home the Plate. 


BOWL


Oceanside vs Ventura Outlaws and OId Aztecs vs Pasadena. Oceanside beat the hosts Ventura Outlaws while Old Aztecs got the win vs Pasadena. In the final between the 2 familiar teams the two were tied as time expired and went into our 2nd Sudden Death OT match of the day with Oceanside getting the final try of the day. 


WOMEN


After 4 tough pool play matches, we saw three teams LaDean, Ventura Lady Outlaws and San Fernando Valley all come out with a record of 3-1. Coming down to point differential to determine who would go onto the Women's Final. LaDena secured the 1st spot with San Fernando Valley barely beating out Ventura Lady Outlaws by a few points to secure the 2nd spot. The final LaDena vs San Fernando Valley was another close competitive match coming down to a conversion with San Fernando Valley beating LaDena for the Women's Championship
